Production entries and bill of materials
For a manufacturer: save what one batch uses (the bill of materials) once on the finished item. Each production entry then takes the raw material out of stock and puts the finished goods in, at cost.
Step by step
- Open Production. Menu › Production (switch it on in Additional features if hidden).
- Save a bill of materials. Press Bill of materials, pick the finished item, how much one batch makes, and each raw material with its quantity. A raw material can have its own BOM (⚙), so it can be made in the same entry. You can keep versions (for example "Summer mix").
- Record production. Press Production entry, choose the item and quantity made. The raw material quantities fill in from the BOM; change them to what was really used.
- Add extra cost and by-products. Labour or power for the batch adds to the cost. By-products and scrap come into stock at the value you enter, and that value is taken off the finished item's cost.
- Save. Stock and the manufacturing account update.
Worked example
One batch of 100 kg spice mix uses 60 kg chilli at ₹150 and 40 kg coriander at ₹90: ₹9,000 + ₹3,600 = ₹12,600, plus labour ₹1,400 = ₹14,000. 2 kg of husk (scrap) is kept at ₹100. Cost of the mix = ₹14,000 − ₹100 = ₹13,900 for 100 kg, ₹139 per kg.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Raw material goes below zero. Its purchase bill or opening stock is missing.
- Selling the raw material by mistake as finished goods. Items used in production and never made count as raw material in the manufacturing account; keep names clear.
