Enter opening balances when you start
If you start using the App when customers already owe you money, enter those amounts once as opening balances. Do the same for cash in hand and the bank balance. Then every balance in the App matches your books.
Step by step
- Open the form. Dashboard › Quick add › Opening balance, or Money in and out › Opening balance.
- Choose who owes whom. They owe me (a customer), I owe them (a supplier), Cash in hand on the start date or Bank balance on the start date.
- Party, Amount (₹) and Date. Use your start date, for example 1 April. One entry per party.
- Save. The amount shows in Dues (aged from that date), the party ledger and the books.
Worked example
You start on 1 April 2026. Delhi Decor owed ₹12,000 from March, you owed Punjab Steel Mart ₹5,000, cash in hand was ₹15,000 and the bank showed ₹50,000. Enter four opening balances. On 1 April the dashboard shows To receive ₹12,000, To pay ₹5,000, Cash in hand ₹15,000, Bank and UPI ₹50,000.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Re-entering old bills one by one. Not needed: one opening balance per party is enough. Enter old bills only if you want bill-wise ageing for them.
- Two opening balances for the same party. They add up. Edit the first one instead.
- The balance sheet does not agree after opening balances. Opening stock, fixed assets and loans also need opening figures. Ask your accountant for last year's balance sheet and enter the rest as a journal entry.
